Being a lawyer, I always have an opinion. I don't think she should have to start over, because the deal was that she get 10,000 miles. It didn't say in your contract that she would be penalized for a mess up while doing bike tow when she doesn't know what to do.
If you want to amend the oral contract (and I'm assuming it was oral), she would need to agree to the modification. I bet she doesn't.
I've got about 1300 miles (weekend jaunts to Bethesda makes it hard to rack up a lot of miles, but I do know how to handle traffic, stop lights and potholes) and while no one has offered me a Harley, I still have the experience of those miles. So does your wife. And that was the purpose of the contract. To make sure she had the experience before she moved up to a more expensive toy.
